I stayed there last March. It's a pretty cool hotel overall. As far as smoking, my room was a non-smoking room. I asked the bellhop who helped me with my luggage if they were really serious about the whole no smoking thing. He pulled out an ash tray from the safe and told me that if I was going to be doing some serious blazing to be sure and open the window. I smoked the whole time I was there and nobody ever said anything to me. I just keep the "do not disturb" sign on the door and leave it there for my whole stay so that I don't have cleaning people saying my room reeks of bud. This is pretty much the way I do it whenever I travel anywhere in the world. Also, there is an invention called a "Smokebuddy". It's a filtration device that you can blow smoke thru one end of and clean air comes out the other. They have a video review of it on YouTube if you wanted to check it out. I'm headed to the 'Dam in 12 days and I just recieved my smokebuddy in the mail so that I can take it with me on my trip. Hopefully the info has been of some help to you. Have a fun trip!

Nice thread, I visited Amsterdam with girlfriend and almost 19 years, my nephew from 16 June-Jully1. I was very pleased that we were made to feel so welcome at this beautiful hotel. Our original room was too small for the three of us and we were supplied with a bigger room on request which was very comfortable.

Just stayed here and a great hotel non smoking completely.also need 400e deposit per stay either cash or credit card.booked through easyjet holidays including breakfast city tax and flights for 790e also had a superior deluxe with city view.was a great price as breakfast would have cost 200e for 2 of us for 4 nights.would not stay again as we hardly in the hotel except to bath shower and sleep. And to empty the free mini bar.

Best Hotel I've ever stayed in Amsterdam. I smoked like a trooper throughout my stay. No problems there. The room was big, they have very large and deep bath tubs! Very nice and friendly place. I spent some time just walking around the place randomly as I found it so interesting visually.

The buffet breakfast at the hotel is the most expensive I've ever eaten. It was good though!

Also very close to Voyagers!

They do not have air conditioning, due to some rule for the building type, not sure exactly why.
So temperature control can be problematic, can be very hot in summer.
Other than that, very nice hotel.

Yes not a problem when I stayed there in the middle of Winter. It was bloody freezing outside! Prolly no A/C allowed because it is a highly prized building which must have lots of permit restrictions for alterations even on the inside.

Stopped at the Amrath for a few days for Queens Day this year. Fabulous 'Gothic' building. Very high ceilings and big rooms with massive beds. Free minibar - & re-stocked daily :D I would stay again if the price was right. (I paid £1200 in total for 5 nights & flights (UK) for the Mrs & Me.
