Doubletree and smoking on the balcony

Post by markymark »

As per title, has anyone stayed at the Doubletree in a room with a balcony? If so can you get away with smoking on it?

Yeh, I've smoked on the balcony at Doubletree and had no problems. I just made sure I closed the door behind me

I stayed here last night and smoked on the balcony with no issues. Judging by the smell out there this morning, my neighbours were too! Room was great, shower was awesome, great free wifi coverage too. Breakfast buffet was immense!

Just a shame it was so expensive and I won't be affording another stay for a while!

Yeh, it is a bit pricey but a bit of luxury is nice once in a while. I fully intend to return sometime.
The warm welcome cookie and free minibar is pretty nice as well

You are so lucky to have a balcony. I have to go downstairs to a smoking room or step outside.

I'm never in the rooms to enjoy any luxury or comforts hotels provide. If I am, I am sleeping. My hotel rooms are now upgraded to a luxury every trip courtesy of near whiteys. I never remember the times I have spent in the hotels or apartments. I am glad that I have made that realization early in my trips.

Have fun!

Is it worth upgrading to an executive balcony room? Are the executive balcony room much bigger than a standard room? Staying here for 5 days in July.

The balcony rooms are the same size as the queen rooms but with a big balcony. If you want a bigger room you'll need a suite. You also get access to the exec lounge but alcohol and nibbles are only available between about 6:30-8:30pm so it wasn't that convenient imho. Executive rooms do have decent views and no train noises though.

Eta... There's no longer a free minibar :(

Just back from a stay here, tried and failed to get an upgrade to a balcony room, so headed up to the room a bit pissed off, the room itself was big with a view over the IJ river, cracking view, fridge in room, bathroom good, all standard really, I then discovered a big terrace 20 metres along the landing :D ,this looked over the front towards the Amrath/round to Centraal ,we were on the 10 th floor and the view is great, there were two private rooms each had a bit of the terrace too, but I was the only one out the whole time I was there. It was much better than standing outside as its windy and open around the hotel generally.
Dont know if every floor has a terrace but it would still be better heading to floor ten than outside, its a busy area and not very chill outside the hotel.
Also the Starbucks is expensive, at the other end of the hotel is a Douwe Egberts café that does better coffee at better prices imo, the roof terrace bar was a bit dear as expected too, 8 euros a large beer,4.50 a small one, think the ladies paid around 8 for a glass of wine, cocktails are around 12 euros, we only had the one to check it out, timed it well too ,view as the sun set was incredible, so worth a visit.
Also only noticed on the last day that reception has free bottles of water and apples  , would have saved a few euros if id seen it.
Paid 106 a night for a double, so all in all we were happy with it, I wouldn't upgrade to a balcony, for me the terrace was perfect

Great hotel, the iMac in the room is really handy for streaming films :) I haven't had a balcony room before, but stayed a few times in smoking rooms on the third floor. I've never had any problems smoking in the rooms here, and the smoke extractors are so good you can't really smell anything. Expensive but really recommended
