Current apartment advice / tips / info

Post by benstraat »

Hi.

I have just completed my 20th trip to Amsterdam. However, for my next visit I would really like the comfort of an apartment so I could fly and buy, and then base off in my own comfortable living room and watch tv.

Plus, I wouldn't have to buy any drinks etc because they would be there.

Can anyone reccomend any apartments for two people in the central area?

Have to disagree on this.

I love the social opportunity that the hotel provides!!

Both my wife and I enjoy meeting fellow travelers either at the hotel bar, library, or even in the lobby. As experienced A'damers, we often get to be helpful while sharing an Amsterdam moment with some pretty cool people. Also, it buys me some free time to go "solo!"

that's true -there is the social element- but Amsterdam is so social even without the hotel experience… we tend to go for two or three weeks and restaurants become a chore after 7 days - probably why I am partial to apartments. Good you brought that up, as it's important to examine your needs! The hotel camaraderie can definitely be a plus for newbies.

I'm staying here in March with a mate:

https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/358155

Close to the centre, smoke friendly, cheaper than most hotels!

Thanks man!

I did quite a lot of searching and research to make this trip special. This might be my last trip to Dam for a while, got my first Kid due in August!

The reviews are pretty amazing so fingers crossed it lives up to the billing. I'll do a trip report when I'm back.

Good to know its close anyway! Think we might have changed our plans for the first night now!

Weird question, are there any places that sell take-out beers around there? Off licences, liquor store, mini-mart - whatever you want to call them. It would be nice to pick up a six-pack on the way back to the flat.

We arrive on a Sunday so im not sure if that would affect anything (in UK its hard to buy booze from a mini-mart after 10pm on a Sunday)

Then Gall & Gall is right across the street

Unfortunately, it's closed on Sunday. Here's a way to find the other Gall & Galls. There are a couple that are close, but the Sunday hours are limited.

There's also a Mini-Market up at 120 Utrechtsestraat, but I don't know the hours.

Didnt know whatGall & Gall was .... UNTIL NOW! 8)

That is awesome, just checked out their website and their beer selection is top notch! Thanks for the tip.

So do they have different Sunday licensing hours in Holland? or is it the case that Gall and Gall simply isnt open on Sundays?

I'm not sure what the rules are but some of the Gall & Gall stores are open on Sunday and others are not.

It's the same with the Albert Heijn Supermarkets as some are open while others are not. There's one that pretty close to you that's open on Sunday. It's at Vijzelstraat 113 1017 HJ Amsterdam. I'd be surprised if it was open after 6:00pm, but you should be able to pick up some beer.
