everyone has a 'number' per night, right?

Post by Nimrod »

The most you'll pay for a single stay, either hotel or apartment.
Sure, sharing is less expensive, but what's the limit you'll spend on just yourself?
Depending on the amenities, I feel worth no more than €120 per night, and seek out much more reasonable rates.
These days, between €70-90.

What's your number?

I always stay in the centrum / dam and find good hotel rooms with en-suite for between €70 to €85 (in both low and high season)
Just want a safe base camp for my activities - I want to focus my cash resources on my fun

€150 per person per night

Used to be a lot less but the figure changes as you get older, you don't see the point of slumming it when you're on holiday

When I'm with my Mr I usually aim for around 100E, (must be an apartment with a decent kitchen.) When I'm on my own, I aim for 80E ish. (I will go over by about 20% if supply is low or the place is RAD.)
Because life is too short to smoke bad bud.

I wonder whether there's going to be a transatlantic divide over this. If I were coming over maybe once a year from the States, it would be different, but ideally I'd like to visit Mokum every couple of months or so. I don't spend much time in my hotel room, and wouldn't want to be mocked by a trouser press that was, in effect, costing me my next trip. Especially if you can't smoke in the room.

Anyway, I'm cheap. Anything above €50 would be irritating. I'm particularly annoyed about trying to book something for early April, as it's one of those crazy times where you can get a double for barely more than the cost of a single. But the only mate I know who might want to come along is the one who looks after my cat when I'm away, and he's always broke anyway.

My budget is around the 50/70 euros per night. Hotels i look at are Voyagers, Old Nickel, Vijay,

Travel solo most of the time. However if a few of us then will look at apartments and then happy to spend a bit more.

The flat I choose for dam (funky chickin) is not just a place you sleep in... Which is what I pay the extra for

It has a functional kitchen so that covers munchies and breakfast for me, letting me spend the money I have saved on a decent quality lunch and evening meal. Yes I won't be cooking slow roasted lamb shoulder in it or anything but I can do some basic cooking using ingredients I buy which will be a damn site better than most breakfast places

I can smoke weed exceptionally freely there which, let's be truthful, is the main reason why we are all going to Amsterdam and that is worth something to me.

Like I said before, the things you need from a hotel will change as you get older, in my twenties I'd have been happy with a cheap place to crash in. Nothing else would have mattered. Now it's more that I'm on holiday and I want to enjoy myself and not sacrifice the standard of living I have now, it's a natural byproduct of getting older :D (Note I'm 40 now, not 80!!)

Enjoy your trip to Amsterdam chap, keep on going back through your life and you'll eventually understand where I'm coming from

Peace

:D

Gotta agree an apartment is the way to go - especially when staying for a week or more. Doing a weekend jaunt is totally different. But I think most who fly across the ocean are looking for a bit of comfort.. And not being restaurant depend totally rocks.
