Weeded Bliss: Hit The North's Honeymoon
DAY 1
We got married on the Friday. It was a great day surrounded by family and friends, the sun came out, happiness flowed.
But boy are we ready for a break.
We spend the Saturday sorting last bits, changing Euros etc before getting an early night ready for the early morning journey.
The alarm goes off at 2am and I'm straight for the coffee machine before grabbing a shower. Text off the taxi man, just check that, oh theres another one, from Easyjet...
They've cancelled our flight 3 hours before take off.
What the fuck Easyjet? I fire the Mac up and check my account, they've offered two alternative flights from Manchester with KLM. Whatever. I try to book them. No dice. I check later flights - none. I check Leeds Bradford - no flights. I check Liverpool - no flights. In sheer desperation I check Birmingham and there a flight at 14.35, there's about 8 seats left. I book it. My stepdad kindly offers to take us to the airport. We gat there about 4 hours before the flight and have a long and boring wait but at least we are getting there.
Up. Down. Train. Centraal.
We sat upstairs on the train, bit of a novelty for us Brits.
First stop is Siberie which has become a firm favourite of ours. On the tenders advice I take some Versace €28.40 for 1.6g
And I'm glad I did! Lovely bit of bud, smoked great, white ash, got me stoned a treat.
We chill here for a little while before heading out down Singel towards our digs. On the way we come across the weird blue light thing I saw a couple of years ago. During the daytime I can actually make out that it is indeed some kind of art installation. There's been more stuff added too, a matchbox man and some monitors. Cool.
We rock up to the hotel on Wetteringschans. It's OK. Quick freshen up and we head to Leidseplein for something to eat. Went to a gaff called Lavash and got a burger which was just the ticket really. Mrs HTN had ribs which I helped her finish. Then I set her a challenge.
"Right Love, this is your 3rd time here now and it's about time you broke your duck and bought some weed. So, you go in Rookies there, buy some bud and order some drinks and I'll do a dash to Get Down and Terps 2 and meet you there"
So I head off to Get Down first and got a g of White Fire OG at €14
And then Terps 2 for a gram each of Zheetos and Kosher Kush at €30 and €15 respectively.
Before hooking up with Mrs HTN in Rookies where she has bought Early Lemon Berry (Mrs HTN is a sucker for lemon strains)
We sit and chill in the window seat, the music is good. I skin up the Zheetos which is a high quality smoke, it's just that flavour profile is not for me.
All of a sudden it gets real busy in here and we feel it's time to move on.
Outside on the street Mrs HTN's shoelace has come undone and so I bend down to tie it for her. At this point along comes an Amsterdam Crazy. He's walking along with a carrier bag, shouting at nothing until spies me in the midst of my act of chivalry. He ceases his ranting for a moment to tell me what a gentleman I am, before yabbering some incoherent nonsense. He then tries to reward me, he rummages in his bag - which seems to contain mostly empty beer cans - and pulls out a bottle of wine which he brandishes at me. Now, I don't want to appear ungrateful but there was no way on Bod's green earth that I was about to accept random alcoholic beverages off a guy who moments before had been lambasting the heavens in the maddest city on the planet. I shoot him my best and biggest toothy grin, "No thank you dear boy, I don't drink. Delightful to meet you though". And we're off, leaving him somewhat confused at the concept of someone who doesn't drink. We walk up the street and moments late hear his raving and wailing start up again behind us.
We head up Prinzengracht to Utrechtstraat and Hunters Bar (I lied to that Crazy - I do drink sometimes), but not before nipping in the coffeeshop next door for some Gelonade. The terrace is full, and pretty rowdy, so we head inside. The Gelonade is nasty, it's a struggle to smoke and I curse myself for getting more than a gram. There's a dutch couple having a nice, quiet night on one side of us. On the other there's some Brits one-upping each other. Two lads are arguing over some hash one has bought. "It's Fresh Frozen" one says, "It's Static" claims the other. This continues for some time.
As we leave I decide to give the rest of the Gelonade to the quiet couple, the girl was very pleased and that made me happy.
We walk back to the hotel via Reguliersgracht and smoke the WiFi OG which was much better than the crappy Gelonade. Back in the room we eat a box of chocolates in a stoned frenzy before lights out.

DAY 2 - Part 1
I wake about 8am, roll up the Kosher and leave Mrs HTN to get ready while I nip out for a smoke. I walk the short distance to Frederiksplein and grab a bench. A hard hitting indica is just the thing for breakfast and soon I have a pleasant head fog. There's a trans fella on one of the benches and as I leave they say something in dutch about a cigarette, I reply that I only smoke pure and they grin. Gotta say, in full make up they looked stunning - more power to ya!
Just after this I saw a rat in the undergrowth - the first of many we'll see this trip!
I collect Mrs HTN from the hotel and we set off to Albert Cuyp just round the corner. I snap the view from the room...
We stroll through the market in no rush. I'm thrilled to find a shop behind the market stalls that sells the exact kind of cap I like to wear. I'm very particular about my caps, they must have a flat top - like a barge cap or train drivers hat - a small peak and have a "buckle" rather than elastic at the back. It's harder than it should be to find this style but in a post hip-hop/Peaky Blinders world all I can find is hideous snap-backs or bloody flat caps everywhere. I buy two - just in case.
We stop at Darras for refreshments. I have an espresso and Mrs HTN has a chai latte - this place is great. If you've not been it's about halfway along the market and I highly recommend it - they also do Arabic coffee on hot sand. Lovely bloke serving who clearly cares about his product.
Suitably refreshed we head to Katsu for more coffee and a gram of Super Silver Haze. We sit outside while we smoke. The weed is fine and, combined with the caffeine, perks me up a bit after that Kosher.
SSH
We also finish off the Lemon Berry from Rookies.
Our pockets are now empty so it time to get some shopping done. Onwards.
Next stop is Easy Times - quick buy and fly of White Bubblegum at €16 and Cherry Popperz at €12. These both turn out to be rather good.
We grab a pastry from a little bakery and head up Prinzengracht to la Tertulia. I think Mrs HTN will like it in here but, as I sneakily suspected it's closed on Mondays. Ah well. We take a left up Ellandsgracht and right onto Marnixstraat towards Eerste Hulp. Before that we take a quick detour to Mr K. I've been here a couple of times but never bought anything before, today I look at the menu and see Shoreline. Classic. I'll take a gram of that. This pleases the tender no end - he bemoans the younger crowd that ignore strains like Shoreline in favour of the latest hype strains and compliments my choice.
From here we head over the road to 1e Hulp, a gram of Blueberry Muffin and a nice sit down. We take the "Making Memories" booth and smoke the Shoreline. As usual the music is skull-crushingly loud, a mix of hip-hop and Linkin Park. We are soon on our way...
We walk up Marnixstraat and see a few sights...
Yummy
And this smashed window pane which appears as if it once belonged to a coffeeshop. It was just a few yards away from Bronx but, trying to work out the lettering, I don't think it's from there. Come on Amsterdam Coffeeshop Detectives, can we solve this mystery? My punt is Relax, the one just off Haarlemestraat, but how has it ended up here?
Next stop is Chapiteau to fill my pockets. Theres a small queue outside when we arrive which is good to see. I opt for a gram each of Super Runtz, Blue Cheese, Blueberry Pie and Cookies Kush. I wanted to try the Lemon Pie but they'd just sold out. I'm writing the stains on the baggies when a local chuckles "Doing admin" he asks, haha "I need a spreadsheet" I reply. I say I'll be back again tomorrow but sadly this was the only time I got here this trip. As I leave, there's a small queue outside again.
From here we head to Westerpark. We'd bought some snacks from Dirk on Van Limburg Stirumstraat so we eat those - yummy custard buns oh my word! We sit on a bench and see our second Amsterdam Crazy of the trip. He's walking/dancing along with headphones on, a little stop start action, manic hand gestures. He's in his own world and is clearly loving it. All of a sudden he turns to us and pulls a succession of bizarre faces at us before moving on. I love this city, it's so delightfully weird.
We head back to town via Niewe Willemstraat and eventually end up at Big Shots on Niewesijdz Voorborgwal. We sit on the terrace, I have a pint and Mrs HTN has an aperol cocktail. It's pretty breezy but I manage to roll one up. Not been here before but I'd come again, great for watching the world go by.
We head down towards Spui and the Dampking for some 24K. I love this strain and, while you can find the hash in many places, the flower itself is quite rare these days. Yoink!
Walking towards the flower market I spy a chap with green hair walking towards us - it's Drew Gilchrist. For those that don't know, he's probably the biggest UK weedtuber and has just set up a collab with cs Mediterrane on Spuistraat. "Hey Drew, love the content" I say, he says "Hi" and we go for the awkward fistbump/handshake, except he still has his phone in his hand and it becomes a messy moment where I bet he thought I was trying to steal his phone. He was friendly enough though, for a bloke who probably gets stopped by heads all the time for selfies etc Must pop in his shop later...
Next up though is the Mouse Mansion. I've been after visiting this place for a while now but I either forget or I remember when it's closed. Very cool place when you're stoned. Lot's to look at and lose yourself in. Ace.
All moused out we head back to the hotel for happy hour. There's a canal side terrace at the back of the hotel, and it's free drinks from 4-6pm. We sit outside and drink Heineken and smoke Cherry Popperz, the sun is out, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. It is utter bliss.
A quick freshen up and roll some joints before heading out.
We walk up Reguliersgracht and smoke the fattie with the glass tip - can't for the life of me remember what it was though! We stop for Pizza on Rembrandtplein, was OK, nothing special. Opposite our table it seems as though someone has lost a boot, seriously how fucked do you have to be to lose one boot?!?

DAY 2 - Part 2
After eating we head up past the Rembrandtplein/Amstel shops like Balou, Balboa and Family First, past the now closed for the evening Oudmanshuisport (I promise Mrs HTN I'll show it to her another day) and up to Bagheera where I get Pink Starburst for €15 iirc
Then up Klovinersburgwal to Green Place. This coffeeshop has been on my avoid list for the last few years due to rude service and I guess I perceived them as greedy. Now prices seem to have stabilised somewhat (remember when Noon were charging €50/g for Cali?) and all I hear is good things about them I guess it's time to give them another chance. I mean, budtenders come and go and it's probably not fair to judge a place on the shitty attitude of one staff member. So in I go. I'm served by a young lady who is more than happy to show me a few of their Cali strains and offer advice. I opt for the Tomohawk and pay up. Then I remember about my Donut mission and that this is on my list of rosin shops, so I tell her I'm wanting to try roll a Donut later in the week and can she advise, again she whips out the little pots to show me (all sealed of course) and offers her recommendations. I'm impressed. I really like the fact that she was happy to offer advice about rosin in full knowledge I wasn't buying any there and then. The Tomohawk was great when I smoked it and overall the experience couldn't have been more different to my last bad one. I'm really happy to be able to add Green Place back into my good books.
From here we walk along Zeedijk and down Warmoestraat and pop into Stones for a quick drink and a smoke. Window seat is not the comfiest but it's great for people watching.
After Stones we head across Damrak to Terps Army where I get Pomegranate Shake and Z-Cube hash. As we leave Terps we see another cheeky rat and Mrs HTN has to stamp her feet - I'm not sure it was for the rats benefit or hers. Anyway, the rat scarpers and we head over to Drewissharing for a gram of Melon Nishi at €35
Mrs HTN is starting to feel the miles by now so we wander back to the hotel. She's asleep within minutes so I decide to check out the local coffeeshops in de Pijp. I roll a joint for the walk too. I check out D&L which is closest to us, doesn't look overly appealing, down to Ibiza which looks like a nice space but those prices are too much. I double back and check out Carmona, I pop in, have a look at a couple and opt for Plum Mochi at €17, purple Fanta and into the back. Pleasantly surprised upon entering the smoking room, it's pretty large with quite a few tables, nicely done out, a good space. I sit and chill with the Plum Mochi which is surprisingly good, burnt clean, tasty. It's nearly closing time so I head back just as Mrs HTN phones to see where I am.
Some random photos from somewhere along the day...
If anyone knows where these were taken I'd love to know too

Re: Weeded Bliss: Hit The North's Honeymoon
Brilliant read HitTheNorth
Thanks for the photos, that view from your hotel window is absolutely lovely
Such a shame you couldn't fit that window in your luggage to bring home
what a piece of coffeeshop memorabilia that would be to have
I definitely agree with you about it being from Coffeeshop Relax.
Love reading about shops I've never been to, Carmona, Terps Army and Drewissharing will be added to the list.
Can't wait for more

Re: Weeded Bliss: Hit The North's Honeymoon
Great stuff HTN. Loving following this trip report with a smoke. You certainly cover some ground when you're over there, no wonder the missus flaked out.
That boot has a damaged heel so maybe someone just dumped it and hobbled home
And that smoking room in Carmona is fantastic! There's much to be said about the old skool places but if the future is going to be smoking rooms like that, I'm all for it.

It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate - it takes guts to be gentle and kind...

Re: Weeded Bliss: Hit The North's Honeymoon
I’m so dumb. I thought “weeded” was a typo

Minor update: Those sculptures are called the Lens Trees by Thomas Puckley.
They are located on Binnengasthuisstraat, just near the entrance to Oudmanshuisport on Oudesijdz Achterburgwal
Should anyone be remotely interested

DAY 3
I wake about 8.30 and head out for a wake and bake while the wife sorts herself out.
It's only a five minute walk to Rookies and I do like to start the day there. I have a look at a couple of sativas and settle on Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, it wasn't great and burned black. It got me thinking though, I'd bought a packet of papers yesterday as the ones I'd brought from home had run out. Ever since then my joints had burned black... I wonder. I make a mental note to buy some other skins. Somewhere along the line this afternoon I pop into a head shop and get some others, and some handy fat joint tubes for my glass tipped wonders that won't fit in my normal joint tubes.
I swing back to the hotel and pick up Mrs HTN. We're planning a trip out to Haarlem today so we're heading to Centraal. But first, we head to Siberie. Mrs HTN has been suggesting we eat some space cake so we nip in here and get 2 Sativa Brownies for, I think, €7 each.
We decide to find somewhere to sit and gobble these down with a drink. We are near Haarlemerstraat so I suggest Coffeeshop Amsterdam. Now I'd not been in here since it was Pink Floyd but I need to break these mental barriers so in we went. I get a gram of something - it was either Kosher Tangie or Tangie G13, i can't remember. And I hadn't realised it's take out only so it's down the road to their lounge on Singel. We manage to get terrace seats, couple of Fantas, cakes, joints. Onwards.
The train journey to Haarlem is short but interesting, especially for Mrs HTN who hasn't been outside of Amsterdam before really. Haarlem itself is a lovely little town. I had visited only once before, on my first ever trip 30 years ago, and that was at night time. There's a very chill atmosphere about the place. It's obviously much less busy than Mokum. Coffeeshop-wise, there's a Willie Wortels literally right outside the station! I walked past a few but only went in Empire. I got some BlackCatsDeadRats Zangria rosin at €40 for 0.5g. Seemed like a pretty cool shop with an extensive menu, few tables outside too.
We wander around pretty aimlessly, little streets, tree lined alleyways. It's a rabbit warren of cuteness. We stop for a bite to eat at a little cafe which turns out to be next door to Maximillian. With baguettes in our bellies we have a decision to make - stick around and get high in Haarlem or head back for happy hour with a little shopping on the way. Happy hour wins out and we head back to the station. A short excursion really but one that's whetted my appetite to go back. I'd definitely like to check out more of the coffeeshops.
Back in Dam, Mrs HTN want to go to het Gelderse which she enjoyed on her last visit. We take the short walk down the Gelderskade and in we go. I get a gram of Gushers x OG Runtz which will be the last weed I smoke with these shite papers.
We're just sitting, chilling when a bloke who'd been sitting in the window comes over to us. I expect him to ask for a light or papers or something but he says, "Excuse me, do the words Hit The North mean anything to you"?, I'm quite taken aback by this so I hope I wasn't rude. The man introduces himself as none other than @TokeingTom who is there with @G-Man, he immediately congratulates us on our nuptials which I thought was really thoughtful - thanks Tom. We spend a few minutes chatting, he recommends the Gelonade at Solo but sadly I didn't get there this trip - and I'd really intended to but 3 days in and things are getting wibbly. It was really good meeting you Tom, even if I am hugely socially awkward
My only regret of the trip was not seeing your message in time and subsequently not meeting up again. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross another day? Hope you had a great trip.
From Gelderse we need to do some shopping before happy hour, so we head to Niewemarkt and then Bagheera for some of their 24K to go with the one I got from Dampkring yesterday, then a quick dash to Drewissharing for some Gelonade at €13 and then Balou for Strawberry Daquiri at €15.50 I think. Then down Reguliarsgracht to the hotel, on the way we take note of Hashtag for future reference.
We sit out on the terrace and blaze something up, I'm sure I'm forgetting purchases at this point - I know I got some Original Z at Drews at one point. I'm just skinning up the second joint when a member of staff comes over and utters the inevitable, "Sorry, this terrace is for corporate cancer sticks only, please smoke your peace and love somewhere else", or words to that effect. Ah well, it was nice while it lasted. I smile and say "Of course". Spoiler Alert - we don't bother with happy hour tomorrow.
We need food now. We end up in some Mexican/Argentinian steakhouse on Leidseplein. We sit inside and I immediately forget where I am, I mean I know I'm in a restaurant but if you'd told me that restaurant was in Amstelveen I'd probably believed you! We shared some nachos to start then I think I had a steak, I have no idea what Mrs HTN had. Upon leaving I am relieved to find out that I actually know exactly where I am.
We pop in Easy Times for a quick b'n'f of Starburst and then back towards Leidseplein. It's time to sit, chill and smoke now and we just need to find a suitable bar. Now, in all my years of visiting Amsterdam there's one franchise I have never visited, yep, you guessed it - Bulldog. I have never so much as step foot in any one of their shops, but today I'm only after a seat and a drink so the Bulldog Palace here we come!
A friendly Bulldog man ushers us inside and we take some window seats on the left. It's massive in here. We get some drinks and settle in for a little sesh. Mrs HTN smokes the Cookies Kush from Chapiteau and I have a 24K Deathmatch between Dampkring and Bagheera. To be fair, the bout was duller than the pre-match hype suggested and Bagheera just about edged it on points. Neither had the full on taste I remember from the batch I got from Voyagers back when it was good.
The Gelonade from Drews, on the other hand, was delicious. Easily one of the tastiest flowers I had all trip and at €13/g is a bargain for the city centre.
The music in here is predictably mainstream and yeah, I hate that because I'm a middle-aged curmudgeon. Soon, it shifts from the DJ to Karaoke, this is perhaps even worse but is also hilarious. We manage about 5 songs before I realise Mrs HTN is flagging and she wants to turn in. We head back to the hotel and I pop in Terps Army 2 for some Headstash on the way.
With Mrs HTN all tucked up, I head out for a little shopping. It's possible this was when I got the Original Z but who knows. I got a couple of bags of some weed, but I can't remember - I know I got a €20 Cali pre-roll from Green Place and a €40 Donut from het Gelderse, these are the first pre-rolls I have ever bought. I think I bought them as I was flying around different shops before closing time and didn't have time to sit and skin up. I smoked the Cali joint - it was mostly flavourless but occasionally some Z type terps came through. I didn't think too much to it, but then my head went all gloopy. I bought a couple of cans of Heineken but I never touched them. I meandered home via Reguliarsgracht and sat on the little bench which is pretty much outside where Lucky Mothers used to be. I am very stoned. Eventually, I haul my skinny ass up and head back to the hotel. Nighty Night.
